Tricycle is an independent public forum for exploring contemporary and traditional Buddhist ideas. We were asked to freshen the design while converting the workflow from traditional cut-and-paste to digital, reducing paper waste, streamlining intra-office communications, and realizing significant prepress savings in time and money. The revised layout template included new typography, a reconfigured contents page and department headings, and an innovative integration of editorial and advertising content. A portion of the savings was applied to adding four-color signatures, increasing the editorial budget and creating an online edition. The transition period spanned four quarterly issues.
